GUC Faculty of Law and Legal Studies
GUC’s Faculty of Law and Legal Studies offers its students a unique learning experience with a curriculum that, beyond the regular study of law, includes a European and international dimension. The Faculty was founded in 2016 in collaboration with the German-Egyptian Law Advisory Board and is headed by Prof. Dr. Michael Jaensch, who serves as the Founding Dean.
Education
The Faculty offers a range of common core courses and electives, which build a solid and comprehensive legal academic foundation. While all Egyptian law courses are taught in Arabic, comparative studies and international law courses are taught in English. Students receive lectures by highly qualified academics in modern and highly equipped lecture halls with a strictly limited number of students, accompanied by small-group tutorials and language courses in Arabic, English and German. In line with GUC’s Education and Research Strategy, the Faculty of Law and Legal Studies offers a wide spectrum of extracurricular activities, such as moot courts, lecture series, excursions, workshops, trainings and seminars in order to provide students with the necessary practical skills and exposure to launch a successful legal career. The Faculty is also designed to encourage cross-cultural understanding in our increasingly global world through international lecturers, guest speakers and opportunities to travel abroad.
Employment of GUC Law Graduates
GUC Law graduates are prepared to deal with national and international challenges and are envisioned to play an active role in their country’s vision for economic growth. To that end, GUC’s Faculty of Law and Legal Studies is committed to training the next generation of legal public servants, lawyers, arbitrators as well as business and community leaders. Our graduates will be able to thrive at the international level in fields such as, International Business Transactions, Arbitration, International Trade Law, Private International Law as well as Public International Law. Employment opportunities include, private and international law firms, Arab and international arbitration centers, stock market, public prosecution and judiciary, General Authority for Investments, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, international and regional organizations (UN System, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, League of Arab States, African Union, etc.).
