Career Development through SCAD office 
 
The Student Career & Alumni Development (SCAD) office is a unit inside GUC dedicated to fostering GUCians career development. For that purpose, the SCAD office provides a wide range of recruitment services and hosts career skills training events. The SCAD office also cooperates with employers to participate in the career development of GUC students through targeted activities and programs.
 
 
Services:
 
The SCAD office operates within three main areas in order to achieve its aims including::
  • Providing recruitment services by hosting annual job fairs at the GUC premises
  • Offering career development through various events
  • Conducting the ‘Industrial Visit Program’. 
These activities target the development of both, current and past, graduate and undergraduate students of all majors, including those of the Law and Legal Studies Faculty. The SCAD also works on developing university relations, aiding options open to students while  pursuing postgraduate studies and their knowledge of those options. 
 
 
Recruitment Services & Annual Job Fairs:
 
The SCAD office maintains strong relations between students, alumni and employers. To that end, the SCAD issues a weekly employment bulletin to all GUC graduates every Sunday, including full-time, part-time and internship openings to undergraduates throughout the year. It also disseminates an annual comprehensive booklet of summer internship openings to undergraduates. 
The SCAD office maintains a database of over 1.5 thousand employers, with faculty specific coordinators in order to support students during the recruitment process. The SCAD office also hosts one of the biggest annual job fairs in the region, where students have the opportunity to meet a wide range of employers across the market. Participating previous employers specific to law students include: 
  • Corporations: Orange Egypt, Etisalat Misr, SAIB Bank
  • Law Firms: Zulficar & Partners; Sharkawy & Sarhan, Riad & Riad, AM Law Firm, El Shalakany, Helmy Hamza & Partners.
 
 
Career Development Program 
 
The Career Development Program aims at enhancing GUC students’ interpersonal skills and prepare them for the workplace. The Career Development Program 2019 is the 9th edition and is divide into two parts: first, general activities and second, technical faculty specific activities. 
General activities include, 
  • CV writing, review sessions and workshops
  • Mock interviews carried out by actual human resources officers from outside corporations
  • LinkedIn information and profile review sessions 
  • Career coaching and advising sessions. 
Faculty specific activities include 
  • Mock interviews with hiring managers from Law Firms
  • Panel discussions with professionals from different legal backgrounds. Past editions of these events have had personnel from leading entities in Egypt, and may include similar representation in the future. 
Participating previous employers included PricewaterhouseCoopers and Baker McKenzie.

Internships:
 
All GUC Students are required to conduct at least one internship during their undergraduate degree. Internship Guidelines:
  • Must be technical, not simply shadowing (clear tasks & job description)
  • Job shadowing, training academies, workshops, courses are not accepted
  • Duration of the internship required is 6 weeks, with a minimum of 2 consecutive weeks
  • At least one internship shall be done in 4 consecutive weeks
  • Working conditions (minimum 5 days/ week & minimum 6 hours/day)
  • Assigned tasks during the internship shall be related to the major (LAW)
  • Employer must complete GUC Internship evaluation form (sign it & stamp it) by the end of the internship (an official certificate can replace the stamp)
