Prof. Dr. Michael Jaensch
Foreword from the Founding Dean:
Welcome to the website of the Faculty of Law and Legal Studies at the GUC.
The Faculty was established in 2017 shortly after the launch of the study programme Law and Legal Studies in winter term 2016/17. Ever since, the Faculty has been growing continuously. The aim of all its members is to educate future leaders of Egyptian society in public as well as private sectors and to empower its graduates to thrive in an international legal and economic environment.
The eight semester Programme Law and Legal Studies builds on courses in Egyptian law being taught in Arabic. It adds in a comparative approach courses on the laws of the US/UK as well as Germany/France, which are being taught in English. Language courses in Arabic, English and German provide the linguistic skills required to practise and research law. Lectures are often paired with tutorials to support students in applying the legal theories that the lecturers impart. Research seminars give students guidance to develop academically well-founded solutions to legal problems. In moot court pleadings, students meet the challenge to compete with teams from other national and international law schools. Various extra-curricular activities let students experience the practical impact of legal professions. Ultimately, students are offered the unique opportunity to take the 4th and/or the 5th semester of their studies at the GUC campus in Berlin (Germany), which forms an integral part of their education at the Faculty of Law and Legal Studies at the GUC.
Kind regards
Michael Jaensch
