Lecture Series:

To provide students with practical perspectives on theoretical legal knowledge, familiarize them with key stakeholders, and create networking opportunities with practitioners, GUC’s Faculty of Law regularly hosts lecture series. High-ranking professionals from national and international institutions visit GUC to discuss contemporary legal issues, followed by interactive Q&A sessions with students and faculty members.

Ambassador Richard Dictus, UN Resident Coordinator to Egypt, The UN Sustainable Development Goals

Ambassador Richard Dictus delivered a lecture on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the urgency and necessity of these global initiatives. He discussed critical objectives such as ending poverty, improving health and education, reducing inequality, and promoting economic growth while mitigating environmental harm. Ambassador Dictus also highlighted the challenges Egypt faces in the context of the SDGs’ “Five P’s”—People, Prosperity, Planet, Partnership, and Peace—underscoring the need for sustainable and equitable development. He stressed the importance of global behavioral changes to achieve economic sustainability, equality, and environmental preservation.

Ambassador Jess Dutton, Ambassador of Canada, Canada’s Feminist Foreign Policy

Ambassador Jess Dutton gave an insightful lecture on Canada’s Feminist Foreign Policy, outlining gender equality as a key pillar of their foreign policy. He explained that gender equality is not only a moral imperative but also essential for driving economic growth and societal stability. Highlighting global progress, Ambassador Dutton emphasized that true parity can only be achieved through women's participation in political life and decision-making processes. He concluded by underscoring that without gender equality, sustainable development and political stability cannot be realized.

Excursions Ambassador Ihab Moustafa, Egypt’s Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for UN Affairs, Reform of the UN Peace and Security Pillar

Ambassador Ihab Moustafa discussed the necessity of reforming the UN Peace and Security Pillar, stressing that peace and sustainable development are two sides of the same coin. He explained that modern conflicts are increasingly internal and complex, involving political, social, and economic factors. Ambassador Moustafa raised the question of whether the UN needs to change its approach from conflict management to conflict resolution. He called for reform measures that strengthen the coherence between peace and security, aiming to reduce division and resolve global issues like xenophobia, terrorism, and radicalization. In his closing remarks, he encouraged students to envision and work toward the UN they want to see in the future.

Dr. Annette Eisenhardt, Judge at the District Court Tiergarten – Berlin

Dr. Annette Eisenhardt engaged GUC law students in a discussion on juvenile criminal law, following the screening of a film on juvenile delinquency proceedings. The session, attended by Prof. Dr. Yasser Hegazy, GUC President, and Prof. Dr. Michael Jaensch, Founding Dean of the Faculty of Law, facilitated a thought-provoking dialogue between the students and faculty members on the legal processes surrounding juvenile crime.

Lorena Mohr, German Embassy in Cairo & Representative of Cairo Climate Talk

Lorena Mohr, along with other representatives from Cairo Climate Talk, delivered a guest lecture on environmental law and the COP27 summit, which was hosted in Egypt in 2023. The lecture provided an overview of the environmental sector in Egypt and facilitated a discussion on the significance and development of environmental law within the country. The interactive session allowed students to engage with key issues regarding environmental sustainability and legal frameworks.
