Excursions

In an effort to diversify the learning experience and provide a practical perspective to the theoretical legal knowledge acquired, GUC Law students participate in visits to various national and international institutions. These include national courts, international organizations, and conferences, such as the European Union Delegation to Egypt and the League of Arab States.

Law students at the European Union Delegation to Egypt

GUC’s Law students had the opportunity to visit the EU Delegation to Egypt for a full day. The visit provided insights into the inner workings of the Delegation, with each Head of Department presenting their respective functions. Discussions highlighted the importance of EU-Egypt relations, particularly in areas such as education, agriculture, infrastructure, and gender equality. Ambassador Ivan Surkos and his team explained various EU projects and funding mechanisms in Egypt, including the European Neighborhood Policy and Horizon Europe. Legal agreements between the EU and Egyptian authorities were discussed, with students engaging in meaningful conversations about issues such as water scarcity, migration, and climate change. The visit concluded with a presentation of educational exchange programs like Erasmus+.

Law students at the League of Arab States

GUC Law students visited the League of Arab States (LAS) to gain practical insight into the work of an international organization. A group of 65 students, accompanied by faculty, was warmly welcomed by several ambassadors, including Ambassador Heidar Al-Jubouri, who delivered a lecture on LAS's longstanding involvement in the Palestinian issue. The visit featured interactive discussions on LAS’s role in current Middle Eastern conflicts, sparking enthusiastic student engagement. Opportunities such as LAS’s summer training program and the forthcoming LAS Model were also introduced. The day concluded with a tour of the LAS premises, including the prestigious LAS Council meeting room, where regional political negotiations take place.

Law students at the Cairo Regional Center for International Commercial Arbitration

Students enrolled in the International Commercial Arbitration course visited the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA). Hosted by Prof. Ismail Selim, Director of CRCICA and a distinguished figure in international arbitration, students were introduced to the significance of international commercial arbitration and dispute resolution. Prof. Selim guided students through hearing rooms, discussed actual arbitration cases, and invited GUC students to join the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) with a complimentary membership to enhance their participation in future workshops and conferences.

Law students at the Economic Court

The Faculty of Law and Legal Studies organized a visit to the Egyptian Economic Court, allowing students to observe courtroom proceedings and participate in lectures on mediation and dispute resolution. This visit provided practical exposure to the various methods of dispute resolution, bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application, thereby preparing students for the legal market.

Law students at the New Cairo Court

GUC Law students visited the New Cairo Court to observe real legal cases and learn how to apply their theoretical studies in practice. This experience offered students the chance to develop essential legal skills, such as courtroom etiquette and oral pleadings, enriching their understanding of how legal theory is implemented in real-life scenarios.

Law students at the Labor Court of Berlin in Germany

During their semester abroad, GUC Law students attended a public hearing at the Labor Court of Berlin (“Landesarbeitsgericht Berlin-Brandenburg”). Students gained first-hand insight into court procedures and negotiations between claimants and respondents, witnessing the process that leads to final judgment. The session began with an introduction to the facts of the case, followed by the students observing the judicial process in action.

Law students attending a conference, organized by the European Commission in Germany

GUC Law students had the opportunity to attend the "Women & Escape" conference organized by DaMigra e.V. and the Lawyer Women without Frontiers e.V. in cooperation with the Representation of the European Commission in Germany. The conference focused on the experiences of women who had fled their home countries due to war and social challenges and sought refuge in Germany. Students heard moving testimonies from these women, learning about their struggles as refugees and their needs for survival and integration into society.
